Yorgos Ziavras and Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra Headline “Piano Days @Megaron” Grand Finale with Franz Liszt's Masterpieces

Athens, Greece (9/1/2024) - For the second consecutive year, the prestigious Piano Days @Megaron Festival will reach its pinnacle with the return of the esteemed Yorgos Ziavras as guest conductor. The event, which will take place on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Christos Lambrakis Hall of the Athens Concert Hall, will feature the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra , accompanied by renowned piano soloists, in a captivating exhibition of compositions by the revered Hungarian composer, Franz Liszt.

The eagerly awaited two-day celebration dedicated to the piano, organised by the Athens Concert Hall, will conclude with a momentous concert at the Christos Lambrakis Hall. Under the baton of the renowned Greek-German conductor Yorgos Ziavras, the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra, together with Alexia Mouza, Mario Panteliadis and Panagiotis Trochopoulos, will offer captivating interpretations of Franz Liszt's transcendental compositions.

The programme includes two piano concertos, and a series of shorter works, in which the brilliant sound of the piano is juxtaposed with the inexhaustible combinations of orchestral timbres. The romantic Franz Liszt, transcendental composer, piano virtuoso and known for his inventiveness, is remembered as the creator of the "symphonic poem". He was the first to name nine of his works completed by 1854. At the January 28 concert, audiences will have the opportunity to hear one of them. 

In addition, audiences will enjoy, Fantasia on motifs from Beethoven's "Ruins of Athens" with Mario Panteliadis on piano, Fantasia on Hungarian themes for piano and orchestra with Panagiotis Trochopoulos, Mephisto Waltz, and the macabre dance "Totentanz" by Alexia Mouza.

The upcoming performance marks the Greek-German conductor's debut with the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra and his second performance in a row at the closing of the Piano Days @Megaron Festival.

The Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra is considered one of the most dynamic, consummate and active symphony orchestras of Greece. Since its founding in 1938, it has presented works by leading Greek and foreign composers, maestros and researchers, through recordings, concerts and live broadcasts on radio and television.
